Considering watching Sherlock? Want to see footage from the première episode previously unaired in America? iTunes is offering the pilot episode for free to all United States users!

“A Study In Pink,” the first ever episode of the hit detective drama is available to download for free in the U.S. iTunes store. This version is not only available in HD at not cost, but also includes eight minutes of footage previously cut from American broadcast to accommodate commercials.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman and co-created by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and League of Extraordinary Gentleman star Mark Gatiss, the official synopsis for Sherlock reads as follows:

“Note: these original U.K. episodes include scenes not aired in the U.S. Sherlock Holmes was always a modern man – it’s the world that got old. Co-created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Sherlock is back as he should be: edgy, contemporary, difficult and dangerous. Sherlock can tell a software designer by his tie or an airline pilot by his thumb; he has a unique analytical brain unlike anyone else in the world and has found the best way to stave off boredom is by solving crimes. When a chance encounter brings soldier John Watson into Sherlock’s life, it’s apparent the two men couldn’t be more different, but Sherlock’s intellect coupled with John’s pragmatism soon forges an unbreakable alliance as they investigate a series of baffling cases together. Drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.”

It’s a great offer to take advantage of if you’re considering adding the series to your fandoms, but don’t want to fork out the usual $6.99 price without knowing if you will enjoy it. The offer is also great for those of you who begrudged missing nearly 10% of the episode when it first aired on PBS.
