Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will wrap up its run with the upcoming fifth season.

The announcement came directly from showrunner Noelle Stevenson in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Fans who are worried that the ending of She-Ra came as a surprise to Noelle Stevenson can rest easy, as the showrunner stated that she knew from the very beginning that the show would run for five seasons.

“It has been such an incredible journey so far just getting to share these seasons that are already out and seeing the reactions,” Stevenson said in the interview with EW. “I do feel very lucky because we knew from the very beginning what our episode order was, so we got to tailor the story very specifically to how long the show was gonna be.”

She went on to say that She-Ra “was tailored to be 52 episodes, the length that it is, and that’s a real blessing for a storyteller because it means everything happens when it’s meant to happen” — though she also says that “the story definitely evolved along the way, from people who worked on it and following the story threads that seemed right and where the characters led us.”

The fact that She-Ra was always meant to be five seasons explains why the show’s seasons were able to be released in such quick succession. She-Ra first premiered two years ago in 2018 and will wrap up its five season run later this year.

“We set out with a plan, we executed that plan, so it’s very satisfying to see it wrap up like this,” Noelle Stevenson said when talking about the show’s run. “I’m very happy with where we got to with this story. I’m really excited for people to see it. I hope they’ll be as happy as I am.”

The fifth and final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will be released on Netflix on May 15.
