Shazam was set to undergo typical reshoots until about November, but the WB has given the film a bit more time to get things just right.

It’s normal for movies to undergo reshoots. It allows for a film to get everything just right, correct any errors, grab additional shots and sequences, and ensure that the movie we see on the big screen is the best it can be. So it was no surprise to hear that DC’s forthcoming Shazam was set to head into additional photography from November 1 to November 18.

However, it seems that the WB is being extra-generous to the movie, and is allowing a huge chunk of time for Shazam to complete reshoots. Instead of wrapping on November 18, HN Entertainment reports that the film is being given until December 22 to complete reshoots.

It’s a slightly surprising move, though not unheard of, especially given that Shazam is set to release in theaters in early 2019 — April 5, 2019, to be exact.

However, given the restructuring that the DCEU is undergoing and the hard work that Warner Bros. is putting in to set up future DCEU films for success, it’s not surprising that they would want to ensure Shazam is given every opportunity to be successful at the box office and with audiences.

Even better, it’s also being reported that David F. Sandberg’s budget was increased to allow for additional pickups that the filmmaker thought were missed in initial photography. Again, for such a high profile movie and a huge comic book franchise, these reshoots and the increased budget are pretty par for the course.

While there are several conspiracy theories popping up online that this is another late-in-the-game attempt to make big changes to the movie, it seems that this is only the result of a studio supporting the movie, the actors, and the director to ensure that Shazam has the resources it needs to be great.

DC and Warner Bros. haven’t released many images or much footage from the film (save a teaser), but we can hope that once additional photography wraps at the end of next month, we won’t have to wait long for a full-length trailer. Shazam is shaping up to be a fun superhero flick the whole family can enjoy, and we can’t wait!
