Mark your calendars, Shazam fans — Shazam 2 finally has a theatrical release date!

Shazam made a splash at the box office when it hit the big screen on April 5, so it probably comes as no surprise that a sequel to the Zachary Levi lead superhero flick is already in the works over at Warner Brothers.

In good news for fans who just can’t wait for more, the sequel finally has a release date!

According to Deadline, Shazam 2 will officially hit theaters on April 1, 2022 — nearly three years after the first installment opened.

Word of the release date comes amidst some shuffling in Warner Brothers’ theatrical release slate following yesterday’s news of premiere dates for Matrix 4 and The Flash.

It also comes hot on the heels of word that DCEU fans can expect to see Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson hit theaters on December 22, 2021.

As DC Comics fans know, Black Adam is a notable nemesis of Shazam, so the fact that both films will debut within four months of each other is definitely cause for excitement.

Currently, there’s no word yet on what the plot of the sequel will entail. But we’re sure fans have already begun theorizing on how Black Adam might fit into the fold of things now that we know we’ll be meeting him just a few months prior.

Behind the scenes, both David F. Sandberg and Henry Gayden are set to return to serve as the film’s director and screenwriter, respectively.

In addition, Zachary Levi is also set to return as the film’s titular super hero.

Shazam 2 hits theaters on April 1, 2022.
