The Shannara Chronicles has brought a bunch of new characters into the fold this season. Now that they’ve all been properly introduced, we want to know your opinion.

Shannara has been off to a running start since its season 2 premiere. They haven’t been shy about dropping new characters in left and right, pushing us right along into new stories and adventures.

Now that we’re three episodes in and all the players are on the chessboard, we thought it might be a good time to take the pulse of the fandom and see who’s the newest fan favorites.

Lyria

Our princess of Leah. So far she’s been a little hard to peg. We know she kept her true identity a secret from Eretria for as long as they knew each other, but with the baggage she has, can anyone really blame her? In one respect it seems irresponsible of her to leave her kingdom and abandon her duties as princess, and yet there’s no telling what kind of emotional manipulation her mother inflicted on her while under her roof.

Garet Jax

Weapons master and bounty hunter, Garet has shown us that he’s one to keep around for a fight. His moral compass is a little questionable at the current moment, but there’s no doubting that he has a strong sense off what’s right and wrong. What isn’t as clear is his backstory. Although we learned in this episode that Jax was a former legion commander, the exact details in how he managed to survive an infamous demon attack are unclear. There’s also the strange vision he had mid-fight at the end of this week’s episode. It’s obvious that there’s more than meets the eye here.

Mareth

The half-elf with more magic than she can handle. At the start of the season we got a really intense shock once we learned that Mareth was the daughter of Allanon and Pyria. Although we have little reason to disbelieve her claim, the jury is still out on how trustworthy she can be. She’s the only one of her kind with innate magic and we have no idea where she went after she left her home.

General Riga

Currently, Riga seems a bit short-sighted in his desire to stamp out all magic. Although his fixation centers around the loss of his family at the hands of the Dagda Mor, a smarter opponent would understand that it’s going to take a coalition of allies to eliminate the real threat. However, there’s still time for him to come around. As long as he’s willing to put his vengeance aside long enough to get a clear picture of what’s to come.

Queen Tamlin

Her royal highness Queen Tamlin. If there’s anything we know about the Queen of Leah, it’s that she’s ready to lay it all on the line in order to protect her kingdom. If that means clawing out her enemy’s throats or blackmailing her daughter into playing political subterfuge — it’s her way or the highway. In a lot of ways it’s a respectable position to hold. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. But will her viciousness backfire if she can’t learn to compromise and play nice with those around her? Only time will tell.
