Shadowhunters season 3 details are here! Catch up on all the action from New York Comic Con!

Expect a darker, more mature Shadowhunters in season 3! Action, adventure, stress, you can expect the next season of the series to go Beyond anything you’ve seen so far. In attendance at the panel, cast members Katherine McNamara, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa, and Alisha Wainwright.

While the stakes are still high in season 3, new series’ regular, Wainwright, adds that we’ll get to see what it’s like to go home with these characters. Maybe Luke will take a day off! Maybe we’ll get some great Clace scenes in the first few episodes.

The first episode will air April 3, 2018 on Freeform!

Let’s break down everything we learned from the NYCC panel.

More ‘Shadowhunters’

In a flurry of confusion, moderator Jim Halterman, announced that Freeform has picked up 10 more episodes of the series that will air next summer! More details to come!

Joining the cast this season…

Two big casting announcements were made at the panel, including a video from a few blocks up the street! As we saw at the end of season 2, Lilith, played by Anna Hopkins, will join the cast. Producer Darren Swimmer says, “She is crushing it in the first few episodes… She is so scary, and beautiful and sensual. She has such great depth. And she’s coming for Jace.”

Second, some guy from Hamilton is stopping by. Javier Muñoz!! He will join the cast as Lorenzo Rey, a rival to Magnus Bane.

Where are we in season 3?

2 hours 26 minutes and 13 seconds later… Just kidding. About a day after the events of the finale, we will pick up with the crew dealing with the fallout from season 2.

Izzy will be the new weapons master of the Institute. She will also grapple with her new found respect for the mundanes. After her recovering from her yin fen addiction, Izzy now sees the mundanes as capable people who can save Shadowhunters from demons just as well as they can save mundanes from literal demons.

Dominic Sherwood’s return as Jace means a few more tough episodes. “He never gets less sexy. He’s an undead sexy Shadowhunter,” comments Daddario. After breaking two huge rules — they brought back someone from the dead and used Raziel’s wish. On top of that, he and Clary cannot tell anyone about what happened at Lake Lyn.

Okay, what about Malec?

Magnus and Alec are back together! But as Daddario cautions, “People don’t stay happy.” For now he adds that Alec is a bit stressed and “we’re going to see a lot of that stress go beyond where it is now.” Will that stress be detrimental? Who knows, but for now they are happy and with each other!
