With the announcement that there will be a Shadowhunters season 2, we couldn’t help but wonder where the show will take us.

Season 1 of Shadowhunters has hit some of the bigger notes from the novels but has also added some completely different plot lines. So where will Shadowhunters season 2 take us? There are definitely some things from book 2, City of Ashes, that should be included as the story progresses. At least one of the biggest plot points — Simon becoming a vampire — has already happened, but will Simon and Clary become more than friends? Or has that ship already sailed? There is also the relationship between Simon and Isabelle that develops, so here’s hoping we get to see some of that sooner rather than later.

Another area of interest will be what happens to Jace. There are secrets about Jace that have yet to be revealed. The show has definitely laid the ground work for a major plot point from City of Ashes, however they have also negated it a little by introducing Michael Wayland, who is only mentioned in the books. There are several plot lines for Jace that will take him to a much darker place, especially if the show looks beyond City of Ashes. I think it would be great to get some deeper, more meaningful story lines for Jace.

While the novels focus on Clary and her introduction to the Shadow World, they are also heavily driven by the relationship between Clary and Jace. There are many areas to explore both with the individual characters and the couple. I am very curious to see how the show’s producers choose to continue with Clary and Jace. The relationships really drive the show and Clary and Jace have to have a really big moment. At this point they haven’t even established if they are a couple and what that means.

Speaking of couples, we need some more Malec. Alec and Magnus have a relationship that people love. So far we have only had hints of what could be between them, and with this whole Lydia thing who knows what will happen. I’m going to assume Malec is end game, but maybe the show is throwing their own twist on the situation by adding Lydia as Alec’s wife? Just writing that sentence hurts my feelings. It will also be interesting to see if Lydia sticks around as a character. She is original to the series and I have to admit I do like what she has brought to Shadowhunters. I would just prefer she find a different boy.

There are also several characters that could be introduced in the second season. The inquisitor, Imogen Herondale, who may be seen in season 1, plays a very big part in Jace’s life. She seeks revenge on Valentine and is very strict when it comes to the law. Another character is Maia, a werewolf in Luke’s pack. Maia is about the age of the main characters and she and Simon work to build vampire / werewolf relations, if you know what I mean. Lastly is Sebastian. While he doesn’t appear until book three he does play a large role in the rest of the series. He could be introduced next season to create a slow build to his true identity and agenda.

No matter what Shadowhunters season 2 brings, we are just happy to be getting more of the show which has only improved with each episode. Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays on Freeform.

What do you hope to see on ‘Shadowhunters’ season 2?
