The first trailer for The Mortal Instruments television series Shadowhunters has been released by ABC Family.

“When I turned 18, I discovered the truth about the world,” Clary tells viewers in the minute-long preview. “Nothing’s what you thought it was. No one’s who you thought they were. And some people have a dark side. Really dark. I also discovered that whatever your destiny it is, it will find you. And when it does… be ready.”

A second trailer (via BuzzFeed) appears to offer actual footage from the series:

Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons,” reads ABC Family’s synopsis. “When her mother, Jocelyn, is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.”

Shadowhunters is based on The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. It’s set to premiere on ABC Family (“soon to be Freeform”) sometime in 2016 — no specific premiere date has been announced.
