Hypable’s Shadowhunters Worry Report wraps up who we’re concerned about, who is on the fringe, and whose story arc is just too devastating to even think about. Join us as we panic.

Welcome back to the Shadowhunters Worry Report 3B edition. Each week, we rank the characters we feel are on the brink of a breakdown, whose days are numbered, or who we simply cannot look at without feeling some butterflies in our stomach.

‘Shadowhunters’ Worry Report 3×19

It’s almost as if the chandelier made of the bones of Shadowhunters was a symbol of what’s to come or something… Beautifully constructed set decorations and reinterpretation of a personal favorite book moment aside, Shadowhunters season 3, episode 19 accomplished the work needed to set the final set of events for the season in motion.

We know this episode was originally planned as the penultimate episode of season 3. The stakes are high, the final showdown between Jonathan and the Institute is drawing near, and relationships are either going to sink or sail.

Naturally, every character has something to lose, someone to protect, or a sin to atone for. In advance of season 3, episode 20, “City of Glass,” let’s take stock of who we need to pay special attention to, even if they are not at the top of our list. Runners up for this week include: Luke, who I keep adding to the list because of the big question mark over his head ever since his dealings with the Praetor; Lilith, who we should keep at the forefront of our minds now that Magnus’ magic is no longer acting as her prison cell; and Jordan, who appears to have not been cured of his silver poisoning and will likely not make it through the next episode.

Don’t miss: Shadowhunters 3×19 sets the stage for the final showdown

5. The Institute

Yes, the entire Institute makes our list this week. Under Alec’s leadership, the Institute has undergone some changes. The ways of the old guard are slowly fading from enforcement, they are paving new roads to tread. Laws are still laws and Alec has had to perform some impressive mental gymnastics to justify some of the actions of his closest friends and family.

Alec’s character growth is reflected in his ability to thrive within the bounds of the law and his willingness to take the consequences of his actions and not act above his fellow members. He is an equal among them. Which is why, now that things are about to hit the fan, he must rely on everyone to fall back and follow his orders as a leader.

It is going to take the collective strength of the Institute to not only face off against Jonathan and hopefully protect Clary against the Clave’s kill order, but also rise up against Asmodeus’ latest demon rising.

I am concerned about their commitment to follow Alec’s orders, the Clave’s demands, and their own judgement. We’ve seen some rumblings arise over the course of the season, but now is not the time to squabble. Can everyone fall in line and fight on the same side?

4. Maia

Maia’s reflection on why she should not have the serum at the end of episode 19 should tell you all you need to know about her future as a leader. While instinctually Maia jumps first to challenge, she does not just have her own well-being in mind. But in the preview for episode 20, we see that Jordan is not being completely forthcoming with the information about his silver poisoning.

Perhaps the Praetor did everything that they could for him and he decided to live out his days with Maia. Truthfully, I support his decision to steal the final vial of diluted Heavenly Fire. Jordan wanted to give Maia the key to get out of what he got her into. And when she admits to him that she does not want to place herself above the struggles every other Downworlder may or may not face, what is Jordan to do?

Can he take the serum and be cured of silver poisoning? What if he still dies? Is it worth taking that chance away from someone else? I have a feeling Jordan is going to give Maia another big decision to make in the finale and what she chooses to do with the serum will hurt her in some way.

3. Clary

Dark Clary is over you and your attempts to coax her from her destiny. I trust Jace to do everything in his power to get Clary away from Jonathan without harming a hair on her head.

But with the entire Clave looking to get Jonathan erased from the narrative, and Clary more committed to her brother than ever, there is no clear path to success. And if Clary is to come out of this, what does the aftermath look like for her? Nothing changes the knowledge that Jonathan was her brother, locked away in that tower where she could not help him.

Even the best case scenario has some very serious consequences.

2. Magnus

I feel as though I do not need to wax poetic here about how very Not Good™ it is that Asmodeus takes Magnus into his arms and speaks freely about the power that he will be able to harness by using his pain to fuel his magic.

Dearest dad’s presence aside, Magnus is not in a great head space. He does not want the memories of Alec running through his head, he does not want the pain in his heart. So when not one, but two people talk him out of destroying his memories, he crumbles under the weight of them.

Is it a far stretch to think that, even though he does not want to exactly cozy up to Asmodeus, that he will do something to taint Alec’s impression of him. Something to make the pain of holding onto those memories hurt a little less. If Alec cannot look at Magnus the way he did in those flashes — as a lifelong partner, a father — then maybe they will hurt a little less.

Let’s hope that it does not come to that, but demons are rising. How much of a hand does Magnus play in their arrival? What will that mean for Alec?

1. Jace, Isabelle, and Alec

Three go in, three come out.

When Alec and Isabelle found Jace tucked away in the recesses of his mind, it was never more clear that these three are tied together with a bond stronger than blood or runes can achieve. Each of them has come into their own at different times. Most notably, Alec’s rise in the Institute and in love with Magnus; Isabelle’s forging of Glorious 2.0 and recovery story over the last season; Jace’s second shot at life and love with Clary.

They have experienced their fair share of hurdles, trauma, and heartache in season 3. Which is why I think Alec, Jace, and Isabelle are in the most danger heading into the season finale. Where as the trio came together in the 3A finale, will 3B will tell a different story?

The three of them are all going in, but will all three make it out?

Shadowhunters season 3, episode 20, “City of Glass,” airs Monday, April 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET on Freeform.
