Hypable’s Shadowhunters Worry Report wraps up who we’re concerned about, who is on the fringe, and whose story arc is just too devastating to even think about. Join us as we panic.

Shadowhunters season 3 has us on edge. With so much going on in every story line, it’s hard to know where to place our concern. Each week, we rank the characters we feel are on the brink of a breakdown, whose days are numbered, or who we simply cannot look at without feeling some butterflies in our stomach.

Shadowhunters season 3, episode 6, “A Window Into an Empty Room” had one hell of a conclusion. The fallout of the events set in motion by the season 2 finale — the wish at Lake Lyn, the death of Sebastian and Valentine — continue as Lilith takes full control of Jace deploying him into the world as a sleeper agent. Not to mention the people closest to him continue to face dangers of their own.

Some runners up to this week’s list include Ollie, who is facing struggles in her personal relationship, and will likely be laid up for a while after being attacked by the Owl. Additionally, Luke, Raphael (currently MIA), and Magnus are having a tough time of things.

5. Maryse Lightwood

Rune-less, directionless, Maryse Lightwood is out in the world, looking for jobs, enjoying quality time with her kids, reconnecting with Luke! Why would she be on our worry list? Let’s take a look at what she does not have going for her. She is looked down upon at any and all establishments that play host to Shadowhunters. Her privileges for entering the Institute are revoked. And even when they are restored, she still walks around with the weight of every eye on her.

Now, with Alec juggling his personal and professional life, Izzy dealing with the fall out of sending Raphael away and her budding relationship, and Jace being possessed, her support system is not exactly on stable ground to help her embark on this new chapter of her life.

Maybe Max can spare a few minutes here and there.

4. Maia Roberts

Simon seems to have everything figured out. Well, at least a surface-level understanding. The Prater Lupus is helping him not only stay safe (thanks for taking care of that loose cannon, Heidi), but also assisting him as he adjusts to life with the Mark of Cain.

Through 3×06, the impending attack of Heidi was pretty much all that Maia needed to worry about. Now that that threat has subsided, Maia has a new hurdle in her life with Simon — her ex.

If we’re to take the source material as a guideposts for their impending reunion, our werewolf is in for quite the emotional whirlwind that will have her facing a multitude of personal demons from her past.

We’re keeping her at 4, since she will at least have Simon and Luke (if he’s not too busy dealing with numbers 2 and 3) at her side.

3. Alec Lightwood

Is your throat still hoarse from yelling, “GET IN THE CAB. GET IN THE CAB,” this week? Well, luckily Alec heard our advice through the television and got in the cab. But his troubles are right there waiting for him when he gets home. Besides nursing what I bet is going to be a killer hangover, Alec must face his own behavior.

He’s not emotionally fit enough the handle all that comes with dating someone who has not only been around the block, but was around when the block was constructed. Alec’s energy is being channeled in all the wrong directions. Something isn’t working itself out with Jace, try moving in with Magnus. Magnus’ history and his future with Alec is in question, avoid the questions and order another drink. He’s behaving all at once like an adult and a child.

How long can he circle the drain before he leans too far over the edge? If my gut is to be trusted, soon.

2. Clary Fairchild

The stirring started as Magnus and Clary put together the timeline of strange events happening around them. By the time the duo were physically fighting the Owl the end was in sight.

Clary’s been nothing but stoic in the aftermath of season 2. She remains fully committed to her training as a Shadowhunter, keeps up on her missions, and still finds time to take care of Jace. When he allows her into his life, that is. Things have not been smooth sailing in Clace territory, but it is not for lack of effort on either’s part. Clary is fully committed to being locked up for the rest of her life if it means she can help Jace.

But that Jace is gone (for now at least). And the stakes of Clary’s fight are at an all-time high. *paces*

1. Jace Herondale

Jace, if you an hear us inside the Owl, try to make him blink twice. What does the Jace Herondale look like once/if he frees himself of the Owl? How does a life without love look? Not to mention a life where he will still need to grapple with the circumstances surrounding his return from the dead.

He’s going to need an emotional support team rally when/if he does break free of the Owl and Lilith’s grasp.
