The Carrie Diaries, Candace Bushnell’s prequel to Sex and the City, has been picked up by the CW.  The story follows Carrie in her senior year of high school in the 1980’s.

Currently there are two books in the series from Bushnell, both are told from Carrie’s point of view.  In the first we meet small town Carrie who lives with her two sisters and widowed father. You can see the beginnings of the fashion forward writer.   In the second, Summer and in the City, Carrie meets Samantha and Miranda for the first time while in NYC.

From THR:

The project hails from Warner Bros. Television and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, with former Sex and the City scribe/co-producer Amy B. Harris attached to adapt and serve as showrunner.

HBO owns the rights to the series, with corporate cousin the CW hearing the pitch Friday and commiting to the project immediately afterward. If it goes to series, the project would fit into a CW lineup that already includes such young- and female-skewing fare as The Vampire DiariesGossip Girland 90210.

Is this something you would be interested in watching? Who could be the teen Carrie or more interestingly, Samantha?
