Geek alert! The massively popular Settlers of Catan board game will be turned into a movie at Sony.

The film is being developed as a “possible franchise,” according to Variety.

In the board game, players are pitted against each other on an island (Catan) of very limited resources. Each turn, players (Settlers) receive certain resources decided by a dice roll. After, Settlers are free to trade and barter their resources with each other. Using the right resources, Settlers can build things like settlements, cities, and roads on the island to have the best Settlement of Catan.

“We’re excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of Catan to life,” said producer Gail Katz. “As huge fans of the game, we’re struck by the endless possibilities of stories that it could inspire. It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to work in a world beloved by millions of people, and expand its story for the screen.”

Settlers of Catan has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. It was released 22 years ago but remains one of the most popular and successful board games.
