Late night host Seth Meyers has agreed to host the 2018 Golden Globes, succeeding Jimmy Fallon.

Variety reports that Seth Meyers is “closing in on a deal” to host NBC’s Golden Globes ceremony, which is set for January 7, 2018.

Meyers was approached early on in the process, but has only just agreed to take on the gig.

According to Variety, the hesitancy of big personalities to commit to hosting such awards shows could be tied to the increasingly critical scrutiny of Hollywood. In that light, hosting awards shows “may be viewed by some as an example of ego-stroking largess.”

Seth Meyers seems like a great choice to host the Golden Globes in the current political climate; of the late night hosts gang, he has been one of the most outspoken against the Trump administration, his Late Night With Seth Meyers monologues often dominated by no-nonsense commentary on current events.

Ellen DeGeneres, Tiffany Haddish, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were also approached to host.
