The highly-anticipated television adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events has selected its showrunner and director.

True Blood writer and executive producer Mark Hudis has been hired to run Netflix’s Series of Unfortunate Events, and Barry Sonnenfeld (who produced Pushing Daises, Enchanted, and the original A Series of Unfortunate Events film) has been selected to direct. Both will be executive producers on the show.

Hudis’ other credits include That 70’s Show and Nurse Jackie.

No other crew announcements were made today, but it’s nice to see that the series is moving along in its production. Now with a showrunner and executive producers in place, Netflix can begin casting the series (Most importantly the roles of Klaus, Violet, Sunny, and Count Olaf).

“On the search for fantastic material that appeals to both parents and kids, the first stop for generations of readers is A Series of Unfortunate Events. We are proud to start work on a series for a global audience that already loves the books,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content for Netflix in a press release last November. “The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny, and relatable. We can’t wait to bring it to life for Netflix members.”

A Series of Unfortunate Events doesn’t have an air date, but fans are really excited for this series to hit their television and laptop screens. Snicket’s book series has over 65 million copies in print which have been translated into 43 languages.
