Sense8 returns this Friday with a two-hour Christmas Special. In case you were thinking about skipping out on it, here’s a suggestion: Don’t.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Sense8, it’s a show about eight people across the world who were all born at the same exact moment. They share a special connection that allows them to see each other and interact psychically, and although that sounds weird, I can assure you it’s executed very well.

Sense8 is so good we have two reviews on Hypable about both its fantastic diversity and great drama.

I may be boasting and setting high expectations for those of you who have never seen it, but I’m frankly in love with this show, which is why I was so excited to hear we were getting a Sense8 Christmas Special, just like Sherlock and Doctor Who! My inner fanboy is in heaven.

The Sense8 Christmas Special runs at an impressive two hours, so it’s basically a movie full of epic fight scenes, emotional connections and another very impressive orgy scene.

The fantastic part about this Christmas Special is that even though it’s been over a year since season 1 premiered, it wasn’t hard to keep up with the story and remember what’s going on. The show reintroduces each character and their story well enough that you can remember what happened last season, but they’re not hitting you over the head with information.

It’s hard not to talk about the special without giving too many things away, but all you need to know is that the show picks up right where it left off.

Lito, Hernando and Daniela have to deal with the consequences of Lito coming out of the closet, Will and Riley are on the run from Whispers, Sun is still in prison after being framed for the murder of her father, Kala and Wolfgang are still balancing their attraction for each other while Kala deals with married life back in India, and Capheus is trying to get his business back on the road.

Everything you liked about season 1 of Sense8 can be found in these two hours. I remembered parts I loved that I can’t believe I forgot, like how the scenes between our Sensates are so complicated. It’s always fun seeing Sun talk to Capheus and the others from her cell, but then seeing them speak to Sun in San Francisco or India.

This Christmas Special is bound to impress and get you excited for Sense8 season 2, which premieres May 5. Yeah, you read that right: we won’t be getting more of these beautiful people until almost halfway into the next year.

But that’s okay! Because now we have two fresh hours of amazing content to re-watch, which will make the inevitable pre-season 2 binge that much more complete. It’s safe to say that the ending of the Christmas Special is way less of a cliffhanger than season 1, so when you finish the special this Friday, you won’t be left in the dark.
