Well, Sensates. The time has come. We won’t be getting a third season of Sense8.

Netflix has officially announced the cancellation of Sense8, an original series that debuted back in 2015, that is (or was) one of TV’s most diverse shows.

Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president of original content released the following statement concerning the show:

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable.

Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

While disappointing this news comes as no surprise to those who knew the logistics of the show. Sense8 was arguably Netflix’s most expensive show to produce because of its premise and filming locations.

The show took place in several countries all over the world and instead of filming with green screens the entire production was moved to each country for authenticity.

To give you an idea of how expensive it was, Sense8 filmed in nine cities in season 1 and then 16 cities in season 2.

With the cost of talent, equipment, locations and more we can understand Netflix’ hesitance to renew for a third season.

It’s a sad day for fans, especially considering the shockingly large cliffhanger we were left with in season 2. Will we get a movie to wrap things up? It’s unlikely, but considering the location of the Sensates at the end of the season anything is possible.
