The cancelled Selfie is still going strong online: a new episode was posted on Hulu earlier today, and it’s amazing.

Seriously, ABC, cancelling Selfie was obviously a huge mistake. Undo it now, please?

After pulling the show after seven episodes, series creator Emily Kapnek announced to heartbroken fans that ABC.com and Hulu would be airing the remaining six episodes online, to finish out the 13-episode season.

Last week we had episode 8 (read our recap here), and today, episode 9, “Follow Through” has been made available on Hulu.com.

It’s a great episode, which puts the relationship between Eliza (Karen Gillan) and Henry (John Cho) in focus. Here’s what happens:

Butt-eye

The episode opens with Henry staring down a tub of diaper creme, which has to re-brand. Eliza reveals that she uses it to keep the eyes young – and we’re totally gonna try this at home.

Henry also meets some of Bryn’s annoying friends (were they cast specifically for their likenesses to Christina Ricci and Emily VanCamp?), and gets invited to their book club.

He ends up insulting one of them, they make bad sandwiches, and there’s not really much else to say about that. Bryn and her friends continue to feel very disconnected from the plot, which is a shame.

It’s a riff

Eliza brings her butt-eye idea to Saperstein, who loves it. “We’re like a corporate jazz trio trying to figure out a profit tune,” he says before they start riffing.

Joan comes in, hilariously understands what’s going on immediately, and clears his schedule for a “jazz meeting.”

Later, Eliza and the ever-more-adorable Freddy are in bed together, and he invites her to meet his parents. She agrees – and for the first time in their relationship, they sleep together without having sex.

It’s a big step for Eliza, and as she explains the next day to Charmonique, it scares her.

Henry sees Eliza working late at the office, and she tells him about her dinner date. He’s happy for her, but the tension – as usual – could be cut with a knife.

Henry lends Eliza his coat, and she fashions it into an evening dress. “A little bit of you, a little bit of me?” she asks. “That seems to be the perfect combination,” Henry agrees, along with thousands of fans we’re sure!

Not a winning combination

On her way to the restaurant, Eliza begins to notice how many people hide behind their phones, and has an important realisation: “Some moments are worth putting your phone down for. But more and more, we forget to.”

As she sees Freddy, “it was like the blue haze had lifted,” and she breaks up with him in front of his parents.

She realises that they’re too similar – just like Henry and Julia, of course! Which leads us to the big finish…

“Henry and I were going to be together… or else.”

In a surprising twist, the episode ended with a huge leap forward in the Henry/Eliza relationship.

On her way home, Eliza had an epiphany about her relationship with Henry, and decided to, er, give it to him tonight (the “it” being the jacket, obvs).

Was this a part of the original season plan? Will it end with them getting together, or will Henry be put off by her aggressive pursuit of him?

We don’t know if the writers have been able to tweak anything post-cancellation – certainly they can’t have filmed new scenes, but they could have altered the voice-over, and they might have been able to move some stuff around in editing.

Because it seems like Eliza has suddenly become very sure of what (and who) she wants, and is on a fast track to getting it. Let’s hope this means a happy ending for Henry and Eliza!

‘Selfie’ season 1, episode 10 is released next Tuesday!
