This week on Selfie, Eliza and Henry worked together to give Charmonique a night of true love… which didn’t turn out as planned.

Selfie season 1, episode 4, “Nugget of Wisdom,” was wonderful. At this point we’re not totally sure why Eliza (Karen Gillan) really needs to change – she’s adorable – but we’re starting to get why Henry (John Cho) does.

Henry is constantly trying to stop Eliza tweeting and instagramming. He tells Eliza she needs to help others, and sings her the “catchy anthem” about people who works in the weekends.

But as Terrence (Samm Levine) can inform him, most people actually work so they get to do awesome things in the weekend.

Eliza decides that she will work this weekend – “work” being helping Charmonique (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) look fabulous for her high school reunion – if Henry pledges to let loose.

Freddy (Giacomo Gianniotti), who seems to have gotten more handsome since the last time we saw him, puts a wrench in Henry’s (already shaky) weekend plans, by challenging the company’s iconic children’s vitamin. Cue most epic Henry/Saperstein (David Harewood) flashback of all time.

At Charmonique’s apartment, we are invited into her out-of-the-world room of wigs, which she informs Eliza is worth $60,000. Yeah, that’s gonna come up later.

They then make a Renée Zellweger reference. Which has us completely floored, since the pictures of her new face were only released yesterday! Magic.

Their “No Scrubs” dance party is interrupted by Charmonique’s sitter cancelling on her. Luckily, she convinces Eliza to stay and babysit. And yes, there’s a little bit of singing!

Unfortunately, Charmonique’s true love Mitchell McMoney has converted to priesthood since the last time she saw him.

He proceeds to judge her and her life as a single mother, but Charmonique stands up to him and becomes our personal hero: she has self-love, and that’s awesome.

Back at the apartment, Eliza and Kevin use Charmonique’s (very expensive!) wigs to make it looks like a wild party.

Lured by the instagram updates, Henry joins Eliza’s party. It’s all going great, until they order Kevin to bed, and he proceeds to turn into Eddie Murphy.

At the end of the day, poor Eliza loses her instagram battle, but she gains Henry’s respect. “And kept a small child alive,” which any first-time babysitter will probably see as quite an accomplishment.

And bonus, Henry finds a way to solve his vitamin problem, by arguing that all the fancy vitamins pretending they’re something they’re not are actually poisoning the children.

We smell a metaphor. It has a pleasant, but not delicious, orangey flavour.

Finally, Saperstein makes an apt observation about Henry and Eliza, which leads Henry to yet again do some pining:

“You two make quite the power-couple.”
“Oh, no Sir, we’re just-”
“Perfect together.”

For the record, we think their ginger-Korean babies would be adorable.

…But now, Eliza owes Charmonique $60,000. Oops. Hopefully she doesn’t have to work it off by babysitting again.
