Bad news, Selfie fans. The new ABC sitcom, already in the ratings danger zone, has lost a third of its viewership from last week’s pilot.

We’re not ashamed to admit this: we’re really starting to like Selfie. Its pilot episode was partly good and partly cringe-worthy, but its second episode was solid from start to finish.

Karen Gillan (Eliza) and John Cho (Henry) are really finding their groove, both apart and together, and the episode had more laugh-out-loud moments that most other sitcoms currently on the air.

We’d hate to see this struggling new show cancelled before it’s even had a chance to prove its worth.

Sadly the pilot didn’t inspire a lot of people to tune in again last night, and they certainly didn’t tell their friends to watch it, either.

Zap2It’s TV By The Numbers reports that Selfie scored a 1.0 in the 18-49 age bracket, which is half a point down from last week’s 1.6. (Quick maths: that’s more than 1/3 of its total viewership.)

Fellow ABC newbie Manhattan Love Story scored an 0.9, and at this point, both shows currently seem likely to be cancelled. Ratings are still all-important in the network TV game, mainly due to the advertising deals that feed the beast. (That means even if you watch shows in other ways, tune in live for the ones you like!)

Of course we’re still only two episodes in, and we’ll optimistically say that it’s too early to call it yet. Who knows what plans or agreements ABC has made.

However, it’s not looking good for either of these two new shows. Selfie has so much potential, and a very solid group of actors involved with the project – we’d be very sad to see the show axed before it has had time to properly find its footing, just because of an unfortunate name and a pilot that (at times) tried a little too hard.

What are your thoughts on the likely cancellation of Selfie and Manhattan Love Story?
