A Harry Potter fan has used Kindle’s book analysis technology to visualize how often each character in J.K. Rowling’s series appeared.

What follows is one chart for each book depicting the appearances of each of the main players through the seven Harry Potter books.

The charts are interesting because when these books originally hit store shelves we weren’t able to use devices like Kindles to analyze every time a character was mentioned by the author. These graphics also give readers an idea of each character’s arc throughout each book and series on a whole.

These graphics make us wonder: How would the release of a Harry Potter book be handled in today’s social media-heavy, eBook-plagued world? Certainly more statistical information like this would’ve appeared around release time. There’d also be the huge threat of the book leaking in eBook format ahead of its official publication. Obviously an eBook leak would be much, much easier to spread online compared to a physical book leak which occasionally happened.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
