After The Secret Life of Pets became a box office sensation, it’s no surprise that Universal Pictures wants to give the film a sequel.

Secret Life follows Max (Louis C.K.) and his new roommate Duke (Eric Stonestreet) as they navigate New York City and attempt to stay out of the pound. They meet a myriad of interesting characters, including Snowball the bunny (Kevin Hart), who saves them in the nick of time. Little to they know the cute furball is really a gang leader looking for new recruits to join him in his mission to get revenge on the owners that have mistreated them.

The movie features an incredible cast list, including Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, and Bobby Moynihan, among others.

Thanks to the movie’s success, EW is now reporting that there is a sequel in the works, set to be released on July 13, 2018. Chris Renaud will return to direct, as will Brian Lynch, who will once again be writing the script.

It’s surprising that news of a sequel has come so quickly, since the movie has only been out for a month and, in many places, you can still see it in theatres. Then again, it broke records for original animation films with an opening of $104 million. Since then, it has brought in over $400 million worldwide and will only continue to grow before it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray.

No other details have been released about the sequel’s plot, but considering we have two years yet to go, that information probably won’t become available for quite some time yet. Knowing that Max and Duke are now friends and Snowball has been given a proper home means they’ll have to introduce new characters and new problems in order to give us another compelling story.

Are you looking forward to ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’?
