Outlander is adding plenty of new faces for season 2, which will air at a date still to be announced sometime in 2016. Here is a roundup of all the new faces, and how they are connected to Jamie and Claire.

As fans know, Jamie and Claire set sail for France in the final episode of season 1. While in France it is their intention to do two things: one, they will seek out Jamie’s cousin Jared, a wine merchant, who can hopefully provide them with shelter and a means to make a living; and two, they will attempt to stop Catholic, Bonnie Prince Charlie from attempting to reclaim the throne of Scotland and England from the current Protestant rulers.

The new cast divides along three lines: Scots and Brits living either in France and/or Scotland, French citizens, and modern timeline citizens (Note: MAJOR: spoilers in this last group for non-book readers).

French Citizens

Mother Hildegarde (Frances de la Tour):
Madame Maxine Mother Hildegarde is a nun who helps to tend the sick at L’Hopital Des Anges in Paris. She and Claire find common ground as healers in a time when women practicing medicine was not common.

Master Raymond (Dominique Piñon)
Starz describes Master Raymond as “a small kindly apothecary, a mysterious healer with a great deal of knowledge regarding secret matters, both political and occult. Though generally viewed with suspicion by his contemporaries, Master Raymond forms a special bond with Claire.”

Le Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber)
Le Comte St. Germain is a wine merchant who is a competitor of Jamie’s cousin, Jared Fraser. In France, Claire and St. Germain meet in an unusual way, and they don’t exactly get off on the right foot together.

Sister Angelique (Audrey Brisson)
Sister Angelique is not a character who is specifically named in the Outlander novels. She is one of the nuns who assists Mother Hildegarde at L’Hopital Des Anges.

Louise de Rohan (Claire Sermonne)
Louise de Rohan is a member of the French aristocracy. She and Claire become fast friends as Claire and Jamie move in the circles of the nobility.

Fergus (Romann Berrux)
Fergus is a French orphan befriended by Jamie. His street savvy survival instincts are quite useful.

Anneliese de Marillac (Margaux Chatelier)
Anneliese is an old flame of Jamie’s from when he was previously in France several years before meeting Claire.

King Louis XV of France (TBA)
King of France and cousin to Prince Charles. He leads an opulent lifestyle in Versailles and Paris. He lives a lavish life, and has many mistresses, including the famous Madame de Pompadour.

Scots and Brits

Jared Fraser (Robert Cavanagh)
Jared is Jamie’s cousin who has been living for many years in France. He is a prosperous wine merchant who is always looking to expand his trade, and to champion the causes of the Scots. Jamie and Claire will be living with Jared while in France.

Prince Charles, A.K.A. Bonnie Prince Charlie (Andrew Gower)
Bonnie Prince Charlie is the son of King James II, the exiled King of Scotland, and depending on your point of view, also of England. The prince and his father have lived most of their lives abroad in Italy and France depending on the kindness of Catholic royalty cousins to take them in. Claire and Jamie are on a mission to prevent the prince from going after the Scottish throne. Claire knows from history that this attempt will ultimately end in disaster at the Battle of Culloden where the Highland troops are annihilated and as a result, clan life is destroyed.

Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day)
Mary is a timid, young, Englishwoman whose parents have sent her abroad to her uncle, Silas Hawkins, so he can arrange a suitable marriage for her. Her uncle is a merchant like Jared Fraser. The Hawkins and the Frasers move in the same social circles.

Alex Randall (Laurence Dobiesz)
Alex Randall is Black Jack Randall’s brother. Yes, hard as it is to believe, Jack Randall actually does have a brother. In the books they are supposed to look fairly alike, perhaps in the TV show, not so much.

John Grey (Oscar Kennedy)
A young British soldier who encounters Jamie and Claire.

Modern Timeline

Roger Wakefield/McKenzie (Richard Rankin)
We last met Roger as a wee lad, the adoptive son of Reverend Wakefield, when Frank Randall sought the reverend’s counseling about what to do about the missing Claire. He is an Oxford historian, and sometimes musician.

Brianna Randall (Sophie Skelton)
The daughter raised by Claire Randall and Frank Randall for most of her life in Boston.
