Sean Bean is eager to return to revisit his role as Ned Stark on Game of Thrones – especially if he can help clear up a mystery or two. Some spoilers ahead.

Though fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones have probably recovered from the death of Eddard Stark in season 1 (or at least been distracted from their grief by even more grief) there’s no question that the character left more than a few unanswered questions behind with his head.

(Jon Snow’s mother, anyone?)

But according to actor Sean Bean, there may yet be hope for answers to those pressing questions. In a recent interview with Vulture, Bean was excited to learn that Game of Thrones will weave flashbacks into the fabric of its fifth season – and was eager to be included in the revitalized history.

“That would be great fun!” Bean enthused. “Just to go back to that for a while, it would be such fun to do… It would be bizarre, but it would be great! So I guess if they’re going to do flashbacks, then yeah!”

Though the flashbacks on Game of Thrones season 5 seem to primarily concern Cersei Lannister (for now) Bean was excited at the idea that Ned’s son Bran might soon be able to see the past though his connection to weirwood trees.

The actor also made it clear where he stands on the topic of Jon’s Snow’s parentage, developing his own theories on the sensitive subject.

“I’ve definitely got some unfinished business that needs to be resolved there,” Bean said. The actor also revealed his own theories on the future of Game of Thrones.

“I’m obviously not Jon Snow’s dad,” he said. “And you need that to be revealed at some point, don’t you? So Bran would kind of be the one having the flashback, and he would see Ned praying, right? And revealing those things?”

Though Bean admitted that “You never know what [the showrunners] are going to do” with long-percolating mysteries, he repeated he “certainly would be into” returning to the show.

“Print that!” he laughed. “Give them a nudge. Hopefully I’ll get a call soon.”
