Tyson, a cyclops and Percy Jackson’ half-brother, is the latest monster to be added to the Sea of Monsters Compendium.

Tyson is a son of Poseidon, just like Percy. However, he is also a cyclops, and his mother is an unknown nature spirit.

The entry into the Compendium highlights his strengths, which includes his immunity to fire and an ability to breathe underwater. It also gives us the quote, “Point is, maybe I could talk to him. Y’ know, cyclops to cyclops.” This is, presumably, when they’re trying to rescue Grover from Polyphemus.

In the Sea of Monsters book, we meet Tyson for the first time. Prior to learning who (and what) Tyson truly is, Percy and Tyson are friends at school, with both of them being outsiders. However, once Percy learns that Tyson’s father is also Poseidon, Percy isn’t too keen to admit that Tyson is his brother.

Tyson travels with Percy, Annabeth, and Clarisse to the Sea of Monsters to try to get the Golden Fleece from Polyphemus. It is during this trip that Tyson shows off some of his talents (like being able to mimic voices) and truly helps Percy and the others save Camp Half-Blood.

In previous Compendium entries, we’ve gotten a look at Grover, Charybdis, and Percy and Riptide, among others.

Earlier today we got a new clip from the Lightning Thief sequel that shows Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson escaping from the Princess Andromeda and their captors, led by Luke.

Sea of Monsters opens up on August 7, starring Logan Lerman (Percy), Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth), Brandon T. Jackson (Grover), Jake Abel (Luke), Leven Rambin (Clarisse), and Douglas Smith (Tyson). Stanley Tucci will play Dionysus, Nathan Fillion will play Hermes, and Anthony Stewart Head will replace Pierce Brosnan as Chiron.

Are you happy with what you’ve seen so far of Tyson in ‘Sea of Monsters’?
