The Legend of Korra season 3 is entering its back half, and a trailer from San Diego Comic-Con hints at what’s in store.

A particularly exciting segment of The Legend of Korra panel at San Diego Comic-Con was a preview of coming events in Book 3: Change. Now Nickelodeon has released the new trailer online, and the fandom at large can speculate on the tantalizing – and terrifying – hints.

Narrated by pro-bending commentator turned ‘Previously On’ man Shiro Shinobi, the trailer begins with a tongue-in-cheek tone. But it soon becomes clear that – as tends to be the case on The Legend of Korra – real drama lurks behind the humor.

The next stop in The Legend of Korra season 3 will be the Misty Palms Oasis, a location originally seen in Avatar: The Last Airbender. And just like in the original series, it looks like the oasis will be the site of some pretty pivotal events for Korra and the Krew.

In addition to sandbending, spirits, and a wild game of Pai Sho, one of those pivotal moments seems to involve Korra being trussed up like a pig-sheep in bondage gear.

So… there’s that.

And just like change is coming for our Avatar, The Legend of Korra season 3 will also be switching things up. Episode 9, titled “The Stakeout,” will mark the beginning of the show’s switch to digital streaming. Instead of being broadcast on Nickelodeon, The Legend of Korra season 3 will now stream online at Nickelodeon.com on Friday nights.

At the San Diego Comic-Con panel, co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino said that digital streaming had been a distribution model previously considered by Nickelodeon.

“It really has no effect on what the show is, or the story we’re telling,” DiMartino promised the Comic-Con crowd.

The Legend of Korra season 3, episode 9, “The Stakeout,” will stream this Friday on Nickelodeon.com.
