SDCC 2019 is almost here, and while we’re all in the middle of con prep, it looks like the Top Gun: Maverick cast is going to make an appearance.

Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the 1986 classic, is coming out soon and the cast is reportedly going to be stopping by San Diego Comic-Con to help promote the film. At this point, details are a bit sparse surrounding the Top Gun presence at SDCC 2019, but the details emerging right now have got us excited!

As Deadline reports, a “non-studio source” informed the website that the film’s cast is booking hotels and plane tickets to get to SDCC 2019. We don’t know who those cast members are, if it’s just new cast members like Miles Teller, or if the appearance would include Maverick himself, Tom Cruise. However, it would be pretty wild for Tom Cruise to not show up to promote the sequel to one of his most iconic roles in movies. Additionally, he’s made a splashy appearance at cons before, making a big entrance at CinemaCon to help promote Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Even cooler, Top Gun: Maverick shot in San Diego, so it’s a pretty special location for both the film and the production company, Skydance. Having, at the very least, a panel at SDCC 2019 seems to only make sense, especially since this movie is going to try to snag the attention of younger fans in addition to those who became Top Gun fans back in the ’80s.

We’ll have to wait and see what Skydance’s plans are for SDCC 2019, and if we can expect a Tom Cruise appearance. Deadline had reached out to Skydance and Paramount, but they had no comment.

SDCC 2019 will be in San Diego, California from July 18-July 21, so we can expect that any final convention appearance news stories will be breaking soon. Time will tell if Top Gun: Maverick and Tom Cruise will be landing at the con or if we’ll have to wait until closer to the movie’s premiere on June 26, 2020 to get more from this flick.
