We spoke with the cast and creators of the MTV series Scream, who are so excited for fans to get invested in their characters — and then get their hearts broken.

Our first question of the day was whether or not we trust anyone on the show. “No, Dude. It’s crazy,” John Karna (Noah) says. “That’s what I love about the movies, especially the first one. Wes Anderson made it, at one point, maybe six or seven different characters could’ve been the killer. And the show really embodies that spirit. Every episode, you have no idea what anyone’s actual, true intentions are and what’s really happening in the show.”

Executive Producers Jill Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia were also in attendance, and we were curious if MTV’s hit show Teen Wolf helped make room for a show like Scream on this network. “It absolutely helped pave the way,” Paglia says. “I think it was a pretty bold move to make that particular movie into a TV series and not shy away from the potential criticism of it. The series is so different from the movies, and they took the idea of it and grounded it and deepened it and really made a phenomenal show. When you take a risk like that and it pays off, then it really does open up the doors to other possibilities, and ours being one of them.”

Talking about the possibility of Scream season 2, Blotevogel says,”He’s got a long term plan.” Adding, “He’s got a long con.”

Paglia says, “One of the things we discovered was that we had so many possibilities in this first season. It’s nice to know if we’re lucky enough to have a second season that there are a number of things that we can continue to explore with the same characters — the ones that survive, anyway.”

Willa Fitzgerald also joined us to talk about her character’s role in the rest of the season. “Emma is definitely going to become kind of a badass, I think, by the end of the season,” she says. “She gets some chutzpah. You know, that happens when you have a psychopathic killer calling you, threatening to kill all of your friends. I think she really rises to the occasion in a very Sidney Prescott-like way.”

Connor Weil (Will) also told us what to expect from his character, saying, “He’s gonna have to really redeem himself” in order to mend things with Emma. “He’s not bad-intentioned,” he adds. “He wants to do the right thing, and when he gets roped in, he just gets frustrated, and that’s where the darkness comes out because he gets frustrated and wants to correct it and that’s when he gets in trouble.”

Should we worry about Emma and Will surviving on the show? We already know no one is safe, and Weil adds that the deaths aren’t just for the shock factor. They want you to feel sad about the characters when you lose them. “We’re all on borrowed time,” he says.

But even the characters who have already run out of time might find their way back on the show.
