Scream Queens episode 8 is the first episode of the season that may have just directly revealed exactly who the killers are behind the masks of the Red Devils!

Last night’s episode of Scream Queens brought a handful of laughs but a lot of plot development. The second scene of the episode features Munsch about to recreate the shower scene from the classic horror movie Psycho. There’s something so meta about watching horror movie legend Jamie Lee Curtis act out a scene like this all these years later. As it turns out, Munsch is onto the situation and actually outsmarts the Red Devil as he tries to attack.

Soon after she knocks a Red Devil out, another one appears. She takes that Red Devil on only to realize that the other one has woken from being knocked out. Out of nowhere, a third intruder takes aim at Munsch, covered not in a Red Devil mask, but in a mask molded after Supreme Court Justice Anthony Scalia. Once again Munsch does what she needs to do and knocks all three of them out before they gather themselves and run scrambling from the room. For as terrible and suspicious as Munsch has been all season, seeing her survive this scene made us want to root for her more often.

Besides her fighting skills, Munsch is also slowly starting to become a reliable character in terms of the overall narrative of the show. Once a Sue Sylvester wannabe, she’s now an integral and compassionate part of the development of the plot, specifically as it pertains to Grace. Though she doesn’t give Grace the exact information she is looking for, she does give her the name of the woman who actually died all those years ago: Sophia Doyle, who as it turns out, is not Grace’s mother.

This leads Grace on a path of crazy, having always assumed that she was avenging her mom’s death. She finds out via that crazy painter lady that Gigi was in fact in the asylum at one point. But, when she confronts Gigi about it Gigi plays it cool. Grace takes the issue to her Dad who insists he has nothing to do with the situation and that he was trying to protect Grace — before looking at himself in the mirror insidiously. “I am my mother’s daughter,” Grace says to her dad. “It means you better stay far away from me if you want to protect yourself.” These are pretty harsh words from someone who is out to find a killer.

The death of Candle Vlogger Jennifer finally takes the death toll count too far and forces Munsch to suspend all activity not just at Kappa, but at Wallace University in general. “Congratulations Red Devil Killer, you have won,” she proclaims. Gigi takes note of this radical behavior and suggests to Wes that if he doesn’t commit Grace he isn’t doing his part as a good father. Something tells us that Wes is starting to catch on to Gigi’s path. He just seems a little too smart to think that this is something any normal or sane person would say. Hopefully he makes a mental note and uses this against her later when they catch her!

Finally, the last scene of the episode reveals about as much information as we could have hoped. None other than Boone is back, this time with a full (and fake-looking) beard as a disguise and a t-shirt that says, “Everyday I’m Mustling.” Remember how he faked his death in the first episode? He takes a phone call and more or less confesses to being at least one of the Red Devils. He also implies that Gigi herself was the one wearing the Justice Scalia mask in the opening fight scene with Munsch. We know Boone and Chad were close and that Gigi is the ring leader of all this.

So have we figured it out? Are Boone and Chad the Red Devils and Gigi is Justice Scalia!? We still have four episodes left of the season and something tells us that we shouldn’t count our chickens before they hatch.

Scream Queens will be back next week with an all new episode titled “Ghost Stories.”
