In this week’s episode of Scream, we learned that Emma has a long lost sibling. Here’s our prediction for who it might be.

Season 1, episode 8, “Ghosts” brought with it a lot of new information, one of the biggest reveals being that Emma’s mother Maggie became pregnant with Brandon James’ baby when she was 16.

Seeing as she wasn’t ready to care for a child yet, her parents helped her set up a closed adoption, making it so she wasn’t even aware of the child’s sex before they were taken from her.

So the question lingers. Who is Emma’s long lost sibling?

Crunching the numbers

Here’s what we know. October 31, 1994 is the night Brandon James allegedly went on his killing spree. Maggie was 16 at this time. So, if we presume it is currently 2015 in the Scream universe, that would make Emma’s mom 37.

We also know that Emma is 16 herself, which means Maggie was about 21 when she had her.

So whoever Emma’s long lost sibling is, they’re about four or five years older than her. You could move the numbers a little bit depending on when birthdays land exactly.

#1 suspect

All right, so we’re just going to say it. There’s one person that has an alarming amount of evidence pointing in their direction. And that person is Piper Shay.

Not only does she fit into the correct age bracket, there are plenty of other reasons to suspect her.

For debate purposes we won’t bring up the fact that she rolls into town completely out of the blue. Maybe she really is a dedicated podcaster.

And we’re going to be forgiving and completely disregard the fact that she’s always hanging out at Emma’s place of work. Caffeine addiction is a real thing.

But here’s the piece of evidence that no one can look past.

Out of the very little we actually know about Piper, here’s one of the first real things she told Emma about herself: “My dad was murdered. I was too young to remember him and the police never solved it. Honestly, I don’t think they tried.”

DING DING DING! Does that scream, “My daddy was totally Brandon James” or what?!

It’s almost word for word what seems to have happened to Brandon. At least from the perspective of a child who wrongly had her father taken from her.

And Piper definitely seems to be affected by his lack of appearance in her life: “I started to ask questions as soon as I could talk and I kind of never stopped. So I guess we both have dark daddy issues.” Yeah, no kidding.

What does this mean?

To be honest, we’re not exactly sure what this means for the overall story in Scream.

Even if Piper isn’t everything she’s claiming to be, it doesn’t necessarily make her the bad guy. It also doesn’t clear her name either.

We know for certain that even if Piper is Emma’s step-sibling, she can’t be completing the killing spree 2.0 completely on her own.

She was knocked unconscious when Will was dragged away by the killer. However, the killer was also completely disinterested in her during that whole sequence.

So the possibility remains that she could be working in tandem with the person running around stabbing people. (Mr. Branson?) She definitely has enough motive to fit the crime…

Do you think Piper is Emma’s long lost sibling on ‘Scream’?
