Scream season 2, episode 7, “Let the Right One In,” just finished airing, and this week we crossed a few other people off our Killer Potential list.

If you didn’t think Eli could be any creepier, you’d be dead wrong. Sorry, dude, but contemplating murder over breakfast is just not normal.

Sheriff Acosta asks Emma about the emails coming from Riley that were sent from her computer, and he seems particularly calm and logical. He’s not accusing her of anything, but it’s clear he’s building a case one way or another. I can’t get a read on this guy, especially when he later fails to tell his deputy that he found a picture of Emma and her father (with his face scratched off) at the farm. Why is he keeping so many secrets and who is he working with? Is it Maggie, who he shared an exchange with where he admitted this was all their fault?

Noah seems pretty cool with Audrey’s confession, but he does tell her she needs to speak to Emma. Audrey is vehemently against this, however, and quickly changes the subject. Is she only worried about what Emma thinks, or does she have more to hide? She does seem awfully willing to push Noah into a date with Zoe, but that may be in response to his admission that he has feelings for her — feelings she doesn’t reciprocate.

Eli swings from creepy to sympathetic when he talks to Emma about Kieran’s deeply buried issues and the fact that he’s being so overprotective because he can’t stand to lose anyone else. My question is why Eli is talking up his cousin when, in the past, he’s only gotten in the way. I have a feeling it’s because Emma responds much more to kindness than his usual underhandedness and this is just another way for him to manipulate her.

For the first time, Zoe actually comes off a little sketchy in this episode. She lies about where she was during the Piper incident, but she says it’s because she did something stupid and her mother had to hire her a therapist. She talks about not having any friends, not being a part of anything, and feeling this crushing loneliness. These words echo what Audrey has said, particularly in reference to Brandon James, and it makes me wonder if Zoe has found something to be a part of now — Lakewood’s Murder Club?

On her own now, Audrey gets a visit from Brooke, who admits what she did to Branson. They head over to the hotel room to uncuff him, but they find a clean room and the only things he’s left behind are the mask, his watch, and a sweatshirt. Are these specific items important?

“Branson” texts Brooke while they’re still in the hotel room and invites her to “apologize” (quotation marks included) or else he’ll tell the cops what she did. He wants to meet at the school, and even Audrey brings up how weird that is. Why aren’t alarm bells going off? It’s pretty obvious it’s the killer even before we see the camera panning to the phone that’s recording them.

Ms. Lang is still being super shady, but at least now we know why. It seems as though Ms. Lang is writing a book about Emma and her experiences, though I doubt the way she’s gathering her information is strictly legal. Still, it’s obvious now she isn’t involved with the Lakewood Killer. She first gets a phone call, then the little mechanical pig shows up again (can this be explained already?), and finally the masked murderer confronts her. She lands a solid kick (I may have fist pumped the air), but it’s not enough. She trips over a barely alive Branson before the killer shows up, stabs him in the stomach, and then throws her down the stairs.

While Audrey doesn’t think of Noah as anything more than a friend, it’s clear Zoe is still jealous of her. I have to wonder if her jealousy is strong enough to drive her to do something crazy (especially now that we know at one point in her life she wasn’t completely stable), or if it’s just normal, non-murderous jealousy. Either way, she listens to Audrey’s admission and emails the file to someone — was it herself or someone else?

It’s too bad that there’s tension between the three of them, and that Audrey keeps being an obstacle in Zoe and Noah’s relationship, because I really do like the two of them together. It reminds me of Noah and Riley, who shared a bond because of their intelligence. I just hope Zoe doesn’t end up dead or the murderer because Noah deserves to be happy.

Eli’s comforting facade is gone as he leads Emma to a random house for dinner. He tells her that it gives him a rush, which helps him forget everything that’s wrong with his life. He wants Emma to do the same, though at least one of our heroes tonight is thinking straight and she’s not feeling too comfortable about the prospect. Still, he convinces her, and all seems to be well. Until the camera pans up and we spot Eddie and Branson in the bathtub, pine tree air fresheners hanging from the ceiling to mask their smell.

Audrey tells Noah about what happened at the school, and they come to the conclusion that the killer wanted Audrey to look guilty once again, this time with Ms. Lang’s body instead of Jake’s. Someone is definitely out to frame her, but this time it didn’t go as planned, thanks to the school’s janitor. Someone really has it out for Audrey, but other than Zoe’s jealousy, is there anyone else who outright despises her? Perhaps Haley?

Back at the mystery house, we see a cloaked figure run by and the smoke detector goes off. Eli and Emma are nearly trapped by the blaze, but they escape just in time. (Was that by luck or design?) Eli convinces Emma not to tell anyone about their presence at the house, and I have a feeling this will be something he can hold over her head for further use. We already know he’s a master manipulator.

Meanwhile, Branson is still alive in the bathtub, but perhaps not for long. We get a closeup on his face as the flames flicker in his eyes, and the only thing I can think of is that we’ve seen something like this before: Brooke saw flames in Stavo’s eyes when she was high on ayahuasca.

Killer potential

Half the fun of Scream is trying to figure out who the killer is. Let’s sees who’s most suspicious this week.

  1. Eli Hudson: This should be the obvious choice since he just so happened to wind up in the house where Branson and Eddie had been stashed in the bathtub. The figure running in the background is something to take note of, but it doesn’t mean Eli couldn’t be working with someone else.
  2. Stavo Acosta: That whole flame in the eyes thing has really got me wondering if we’re supposed to be putting two and two together.
  3. Zoe Vaughn: She was shadier than usual this episode, and her past trauma mixed with her jealousy of Audrey has me thinking she could be out to get even.
