Marvel has hired Scott Derrickson to direct their Doctor Strange film adaptation.

Sinister director Scott Derrickson has revealed on twitter that his next movie will be “STRANGE.” He’ll be taking the helm of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s 1963 comic Doctor Strange.

The neurosurgeon would later serve as the Sorcerer Supreme protecting Earth against any threats via his incredibly magical powers and martial arts. We’ve known about the Doctor Strange adaptation for some time, but there’s been no word as to who would be directing.

Scott Derrickson is known for his work on The Exorcism of Emily Rose and would later direct The Day The Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly starring. The second film was seen as a flop, but his first film was often praised.

Sinister was Derrickson’s next film and with a $3 million dollar budget the film would go on to pull in $87 million worldwide. He also has another horror film hitting theaters July 2, titled Deliver Us From Evil. He’s also signed on to write and produce Sinister’s sequel, and this will most likely come out prior to Doctor Strange’s release.
