Director Scott Derrickson is gearing up to return to the world of Doctor Strange.

According to Variety, Scott Derrickson, who directed the first installment of Marvel’s Doctor Strange, has officially signed on to helm the sequel.

The announcement makes no mention of who will pen the script for the sequel, only noting that Disney and Marvel are currently on the hunt for a scriptwriter.

It should be noted, however, that Derrickson actually co-wrote the script for the 2016 superhero flick alongside C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts, so we’ll be curious to find out whether or not he’ll have a hand in penning the sequel.

The first installment of Doctor Strange found Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch stepping into the titular role of a surgeon who begins practicing the mystic arts and exploring the astral plane and different dimensions after a car accident renders his hands useless.

Currently, Cumberbatch is not officially signed on to star in the sequel, but he is expected to return alongside his Doctor Strange co-stars Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams.

Unfortunately, fans looking forward to Doctor Strange 2 will have to hold tight, as there’s currently no word on when the sequel will hit the big screen.

Coming up next, fans can catch Doctor Strange in the highly anticipated follow up to Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Endgame, which recently debuted its first trailer, hits the big screen on April 26, 2019.
