Ben Affleck just got busy with that little Batman VS Superman film, so he’s been replaced by Scott Cooper as the writer and director of Stphen King’s The Stand.

All the way back in November 2011, Ben Affleck was tapped to direct The Stand, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name. Affleck was also writing the script.

With the addition of playing Bruce Wayne in Batman VS Superman to his already full schedule, Affleck has had to drop the project. Affleck is also directing and starring in Live By Night as well as starring in Gone Girl which are set to be released in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Warner Bros. has selected Scott Cooper to take Affleck’s place as both writer and director. Cooper is known for directing Crazy Heart, a film in which he directed Jeff Bridges to an Oscar winning performance. Cooper’s second film Out of the Furnace is set to be released on December 6.

Thanks, Deadline.

Here’s the book’s synopsis from Amazon:

A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge—Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious “Dark Man,” who delights in chaos and violence. As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them—and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.
