Director Martin Scorsese’s latest film, Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio has broken the world record for most f-words.

One would think Wolf of Wall Street’s one word would be excess. That may ring even more true with its use of the word “fuck.” As it’s now broken the record for using “fuck” in a film with 506 times over the course of the 3-hour film.

The previous record holder was Spike Lee’s 1999 film Summer of Sam with 435 “fucks.” It took 14 years to break the record by a massive 71 “fucks.”

This doesn’t seem that crazy though considering it’s one of the longer films we’ve seen in quite a few years.

Wolf of Wall Street isn’t the only time Scorsese placed in the top 10, as his mobster films Casino had 422 f-bombs and Goodfellas came in at exactly 300. Excessive language is a staple of a Scorsese film, but it doesn’t mean the raunchy language is poorly used or out of place.

While excessive, it often creates an atmosphere for where his films take place. Mobsters and Wall Street guys are known for foul language and its use is no more surprising than hearing Elvish in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films.

Cocaine, money and women were abundant in Wolf of Wall Street, so it’s not very surprising that the “fuck” record was broken during Martin Scorsese’s latest film.

Wolf of Wall Street is in theaters now and is headed all the way to the Oscars on March 2.
