One day before The Scorch Trials trailer hits the internet, fans get their first look at the set of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in a new preview.

MTV took a tour of the Scorch Trials set and is now offering fans a first look at the highly-anticipated Maze Runner sequel.

Dylan O’Brien sets the stage by sharing the main details of what’s to come from the second installment of the Maze Runner saga. “Basically what the Gladers find out is that the world has been essentially taken over by this virus, this disease, called the Flair,” he says. Once this illness affects an individual to its full capacity, “it’s basically The Walking Dead all of a sudden,” O’Brien says with a laugh.

Readers of the book should be familiar with the main plot details The Scorch Trials will cover, but director Wes Ball makes it clear that this adaptation may be slightly different from what fans expect.

“James [Dashner] is very involved in the choices that we’ve been making adapting his book. And our approach has basically been to, you know, take the rest of his stories, the next two books that he’s created and we’re making two movies out of that,” Ball explains. “Rather than just a straight adaptation out of the second book, we need to start kind of laying a nice liner arch for these characters for the rest of the saga.”

Dashner himself backed up these claims in a recent interview with the Radio Times. “Basically it just made sense to move a big chunk of the third book to the second film,” he said. “It’s not a death or anything like that. It’s a major exciting part of the third book that’s now in the second movie.”

A bold move considering book fans tend to be sticklers for details. However, Dashner says it’s all in the effort of making a strong adaptation from book to film. He adds, “When we get to the third movie, things will align back to the books more strongly.”

It’s impossible to know what may cross over from the third book into the second film but we could potentially be receiving our first clues tomorrow when the Maze Runner: Scorch Trials trailer debuts online!
