From two new Scorch Trials clips released today, we get our first look at several book-to-film changes.

For those looking forward to The Maze Runner sequel, today we’ve been offered two previews — one from Collider and the other from AOL.

In the new clips the common element seems to be that we begin to see some of the deviations from the book to the film.

In the first clip we see Thomas scrambling out of an air duct and frantic with fear. He races past his friends and warms them they “have to get out now!” Also in the scene is Janson, and it’s clear he’s who Thomas is running from. The scene cuts off before the boy can tell the others what he’s seen, but he does manage to explain that it’s WCKD who is after them.

The creators of the movie remain adamant that each change was taken to service the overall story, and James Dashner has given his full support of each adaptation.

But in the clips below, fans are getting their first look at just how much things might have changed.

The second clip consists of what is likely to be the first interaction between the Gladers and Jorge and Brenda — two individuals managing to survive in the Scorch. The groups dance around each other for a short time before tension escalates, and Jorge reveals that Thomas has been “tagged” by WCKD.

We won’t spoil exact changes for potential book readers, but the changes may jump out at devoted Scorch Trials fans.

Before anyone gets too offended about these differences, it’s important to note that although the film may not be word for word an exact adaptation from book to screen, that’s not to say the movie won’t be great. In fact, The Maze Runner had some considerable changes within it, and that film was wildly successful with new fans and book fans alike.

So what do you guys think? Should movies have free reign to adjust to the new medium? Or does something get lost in translation from book to film?

The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials hits theaters September 18, 2015.
