AMC’s upcoming dark comedy show Kevin Can F*** Himself has cast Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy in a lead role.

Goodbye Alexis Rose, hello Allison.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Annie Murphy has found her next project after Schitt’s Creek takes its final bow in April with AMC’s Kevin Can F*** Himself, a dark comedy about a sitcom wife who breaks free from her scripted life and finds her rage.

“Annie is an undeniable talent with the ability both to play comedy and to break your heart,” said Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios. “She is the perfect fit for the role of Allison, the perfect actor to bring to life creator Valerie Armstrong’s genius vision. Cracking open the conventions of the classic American sitcom to expose what’s swirling beneath, in this highly inventive and entertaining way, is the kind of story we are hugely excited to tell at AMC.”

Kevin Can F*** Himself was created by Lodge 49 veteran Valerie Armstrong and focuses on Annie Murphy’s Allison, a type of woman we all grew up believing we knew: the sitcom wife. According to the official AMC press release, the eight-episode, hourlong series will look to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes. Alternating between single-camera realism and multi-camera comedy, the formats will inform one another as viewers watch what happens when the sitcom wife escapes her confines and takes the lead in her own life.

Annie Murphy currently stars in the Emmy-nominated Schitt’s Creek for CBC/ITV alongside Eugene Levy, Daniel Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and Chris Elliott.

Kevin Can F*** Himself is created and executive produced by Valerie Armstrong (known for Lodge 49, SEAL Team), along with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Craig DiGregorio (Shrill, Workaholics) serves as showrunner and executive producer.

AMC has yet to set a release date for Kevin Can F*** Himself.
