Missed the Gladiating of the previous Scandal seasons? The show will be returning to that classic form in season 5.

Viewers of Scandal season 4 know that the Gladiator group didn’t depict the style of Gladiating we had previously fallen in love with. Abby had gone to the White House to take up a new gig as Press Secretary, and Harrison disappeared from the show after the real-life actor who played him was caught up in a real-life scandal of his own.

“A lot of times it was just Huck and Quinn gladiating by themselves,” Rhimes said of season 4, admitting it “wasn’t the same dynamic.” (Indeed, but it was great to see their friendship break.. or improve… over the course of the season).

In the fifth season, which premieres September 24, expect the show to make a return to form — This year, there will be a new era of Gladiating.

Rhimes told TV Line that there will be a “reconstitution” of Olivia Pope & Associates when the series premieres this fall. As for what this means stills remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be surprising to us if Abby came back into the fold or Olivia hired a couple new Gladiators.

One of those new Gladiators may be Marcus Walker, the social rights activist who appeared in season 4 and was hired for a larger role in season 5.

So will he join OP&A? Not even Rhimes is certain. “I honestly don’t know,” she said when asked of the possibility. Apparently he won’t be on the show until later in season 5.
