Last week’s episode of Scandal season 4 was one of our favorites of the series. Can episode 5, airing tonight at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on ABC, keep up the excitement?

The synopsis for tonight’s episode offers a couple of hints about what will be happening tonight. “Olivia and the team continue to investigate Catherine’s case, but Olivia is distracted when Jake stops returning her calls,” it reads. “Meanwhile, Cyrus falls deeper into the rabbit hole with Michael, David realizes what it’s like to finally be a winner in DC and Fitz seeks answers to Jerry’s death.”
Based on a clip from tonight’s episode of Scandal season 4, titled “The Key,” the story will take us on an exciting roller coaster ride with Olivia and Rowan.
In a clip from tonight’s episode of Scandal we see Olivia and her father Rowan sitting down for a glass of wine and conversation. Rowan blatantly lies to Olivia during this conversation and it breaks our heart. Does Rowan really think she’ll never find out about Jake? Why bother to lie like this? This scene clearly takes place before Olivia finds out that Jake has been apprehended by Fitz.
How did we get here? At the end of last week’s episode Jake was framed by Rowan via Tom, who confessed to receiving the order from Jake about killing Jerry Jr. In all reality it was Rowan who ordered Jerry Jr. killed, but Tom was too afraid of what Rowan would do to him if he told the truth right in front of the President.
We have to wonder what Rowan’s plan would’ve been had Tom ratted him out. Surely Rowan would’ve killed Tom at some point, but would Rowan have to run away forever?
Olivia does find out at some point during the episode that Jake is in trouble. In photos released from the episode we see the two fighting one another:
(Side note: In the photos depicting Rowan and Olivia we see that there’s a report on the news about a hit and run accident. We wonder if this will play into the plot line somehow, because usually when something’s on television in the show it’s related to the story.)
