This Thursday’s Scandal season 4 episode is poised to be a big one for Fitz: He’s delivering his State of the Union Address.

Now that his second term as president is underway, Fitz will be working to convince the nation that he has solid plans for his final four years in office.

Scandal season 4, episode 2 synopsis reveals the angle Fitz will be taking with his address to the nation. “In order for Fitz to make the biggest impact with his State of the Union address on gun control, Cyrus sets out to recruit a power couple (Mary McCormick and Josh Randall) who are influential on the issue,” it reads. “Meanwhile, Mellie’s personal struggle gets national attention.”

Mellie’s “personal struggle” is of course the difficult time she’s having recovering from the death of Jerry Jr.

A trailer for Scandal season 4, episode 2 depicts the media learning of the nutty antics Mellie is up to:

Meanwhile, new stills have been recently released that depict the State of the Union and Olivia Pope & Associates working with the “power couple,” played by McCormick and Randall. Presumably, Olivia, Huck, and Quinn are trying to get them prepared for their time in the spotlight.

It looks like one of the two new characters is a bit nervous about appearing with Fitz, judging by the open beer and liquor bottles on the table.

Scandal season 4, episode 2 airs this Thursday, October 2 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on ABC.

The show’s premiere last week was seen by a record number of viewers, but it wasn’t as big as the new Shonda Rhimes drama How to Get Away With Murder.
