A clip from tomorrow’s new episode of Scandal season 3, episode 12, shows Mellie talking privately with someone who she used to be very close to.

On last week’s episode, California Governor Andrew Nichols was appointed Fitz’s Vice Presidential running mate after current VP Sally announced that she would run against the Commander in Chief in the upcoming election.

At the end of the episode we learned that Mellie and Andrew have history – that is, they were with each other romantically many moons ago.

In this clip, Mellie asks Andrew if he took the running mate job so he could get closer to her. He says no – that that wasn’t the only reason.

“Looks like Mellie’s been getting up to some trouble,” says the show’s official Facebook page. Indeed.

Viewers recall that Mellie stood between Fitz and Andrew during an announcement event during last week’s episode (pictured at the top). Is this symbolic of what’s to come? We may soon see a love triangle.

Will Mellie have an affair with Andrew? And does Fitz want this to happen, given his relationship with Olivia? Surely Mellie is interested in getting back at Fitz after all the times he’s been with Olivia – including just last week when she walked in on them making out in the Oval Office.

So long as this potential affair doesn’t make its way into the media, this shouldn’t affect Fitz’s campaign too badly.

Scandal season 3, episode 12, “We Do Not Touch The First Ladies,” airs Wednesday, March 6 at 10 p.m. eastern/pacific on ABC.
