The upcoming Saved by the Bell revival will officially be moving forward with Mark-Paul Gosselaar!

It’s hard to imagine a Bayside High without its resident troublemaker, Zack Morris. And lucky for fans of Saved by the Bell, they won’t be asked to do so when an official revival series makes its big debut via NBC’s forthcoming streaming service, Peacock.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar has officially signed on to reprise his role as Zack Morris in the upcoming Saved by the Bell revival.

Currently, the plan is for Gosselaar to appear in three episodes in addition to being credited as a producer on the project.

So why won’t we see Zack Morris back for more? As THR reports, Gosselaar’s limited number of episodes in the revival could have something to do with scheduling conflicts. Currently, Gosselaar is starring in ABC’s Black-ish spinoff, Mixed-ish, which prevents him to committing to more episodes on the forthcoming Peacock revival.

Gosselaar’s involvement on the revival was a bit touch and go there for a moment. Notably, we learned back in September 2019 that the actor hadn’t even been asked to return yet, so it’s great to hear that they’ve figured out a way to get him involved.

Gosselaar will join fellow Bayside high alums Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkeley, both of whom have previously signed on to reprise their roles as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano, respectably.

Still up in the air is Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, who hasn’t officially signed on for the revival, but is said to be in talks to return to reprise her role as Kelly. Additionally, there’s currently no word on whether Dustin Diamond, Lark Voorhies, or Dennis Haskins will return to reprise their roles as Screech, Lisa, and Mr. Belding, respectively.

Joining original returning cast members is Josie Totah (Champions, Spider-Man: Homecoming), who was announced to be joining the cast just a few days ago.

Totah will play the lead role of Lexi in the revival — described as “a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader at Bayside High…who is both admired and featured by her fellow students.”

The upcoming revival will explore what happens after Zack (now governor of California) gets into trouble after closing too many low-income high schools. Things start heating up after he diverts those displaced students to some of the highest performing schools in the state — including Bayside High.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the upcoming Saved By The Bell revival to premier via Peacock.
