Update (1/27/2020): Peacock’s upcoming Saved By The Bell revival has officially found the rest of its next generation Bayside High students.

According to Deadline, actors Haskiri Velasquez, Mitchell Hoog, Alycia Pascual-Pena, and Belmont Cameli have all officially signed on to join the cast of Peacock’s upcoming Saved by the Bell revival.

NBC’s forthcoming streaming platform has been keeping fans informed of casting news surrounding the revival over the course of the past few months— including word that original stars Mark Paul-Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkeley, and Mario Lopez would all be returning to reprise their roles as Zack Morris, Jessie Spano, and AC Slater.

As for the newcomers, news of their casting also comes with some brief descriptions of what we can expect from their characters.

First up, Velasquez will assume the role of a sophomore named Daisy who is described as smart and ambitious. Daisy is one of the students moving over to Bayside High after (now) Governor Zack Morris closes a slew of low-income schools.

Joining Daisy at school is her bestie Aisha, played by Pascual-Pena. She’ll be shaking things up at Bayside when she decides to try out for the boys football team.

Finally, Hoog and Cameli will both be portraying offspring of original characters.

Specifically, Hoog will play Mac– Zack’s handsome, privileged son. Cameli on the other hand will play Jessie’s son, Jamie, who also happens to be the captain of Bayside’s football team.

Velasquez, Hoog, Pascual-Pena, and Cameli all join previously announced newcomer Josie Totah.

Original Story (1/6/2020):

The Saved by the Bell revival at Peacock has cast Josie Totah — who previously worked on Champions, Glee, and Spider-Man: Homecoming — as its leading lady.

Revivals continue to be all the rage in 2020, with streamers in particular headlining the charge.

In the next year or two, we’ll be seeing a High Fidelity reboot on Hulu, a Gossip Girl reboot on HBO Max, and a Lizzie McGuire revival on Disney+.

The newly announced NBC streamer Peacock will likewise be throwing its name into the revival hat, and has announced reboots for some of the most iconic shows of the ’80s and ’90s, such as Punky Brewster and Saved by the Bell.

While we don’t have any word yet on Punky Brewster, The Hollywood Reporter announced today that the Saved by the Bell reboot had found its leading lady.

Josiah Totah has been cast as the lead for the upcoming revival, and will be playing the role of Lexi, who is described as a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High, who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.

The Saved by the Bell revival will feature original castmembers Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez, who will reprise their iconic roles of Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater.

The Saved by the Bell revival will explore what happens when California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, and proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state — including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.

Josie Totah, who came out as transgender in an evocative Time essay in August 2018, previously starred in NBC and Universal TV’s short-lived Mindy Kaling-produced comedy Champions. She also had a recurring role on Netflix’s No Good Nick, and had roles in Glee, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Amazon’s Lee Daniels-produced pilot Good People.

NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, is set to launch in April with originals joining the lineup in summer 2020. The Saved by the Bell revival has no release date as of yet.
