Earlier this week we learned that NBC wants Jimmy Fallon to take over Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show, and for the legendary talk show to move to New York.

The next question: Who will take over for Fallon at Late Night? Today we may have an answer.

The New York Post’s Page Six reports that Seth Meyers, host of Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, is currently Lorne Michael’s top pick for the gig.

The idea makes sense given Fallon hosted Weekend Update prior to moving into Late Night. Naturally the next question to arise will be: Who at Saturday Night Live will take the Weekend Update chair?

Fellow former Weekend Update anchor-turned-movie-star Tina Fey was reportedly under consideration for the Late Night gig as well, but her schedule could not accomodate the required amount of work. While we would’ve loved to see Fey, it would’ve been a serious cut to the amount of time she’d have for film and other television projects. We’d rather she bounce from project to project instead of committing to a talk show.

NBC hopes to execute its succession plan by late 2014. We think Meyers is a great choice for a late night talk show, but we’ll certainly miss him on Saturday Night Live.
