After a public outcry and Saturday Night Live making fun of themselves over the issue, the NBC sketch program has named its new female, black cast member.

Sasheer Zamata will join Saturday Night Live on the January 18 episode hosted by Drake. She trained at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and graduated from the University of Virginia only three years ago.

In December, the show held auditions purposely seeking a female black cast member after many wondered when the show would fill an issue that’s been open since the departure of Maya Rudolph five years ago.

Saturday Night Live currently has two black cast members who are male: Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharaoh.

Last month Kerry Washington hosted the show and portrayed several female black characters, including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

You can see Zamata’s stand up work in this video uploaded to YouTube:

Earlier today we learned that Jonah Hill will be the show’s second guest host of 2014.

Congratulations, Sasheer!

Thanks, Deadline.
