Grey’s Anatomy star Sara Ramirez is officially coming back to television!

Grey’s fans have had to bid farewell to quite a few of the series’ original stars, but one farewell that came out of left field was that of Sara Ramirez, who played Dr. Callie Torres on the series.

After appearing on Shonda Rhimes’ hit medical drama for over a decade, Ramirez took to Twitter on the heels of the season 12 finale to let fans now that she would not be retiring to reprise her role as Dr. Torres.

In her statement, Ramirez revealed that she planned on “taking some welcome time off,” which left fans of the actress wondering how long it would be before she booked herself another acting gig. Now it looks as though we’ve got our answer.

According to EW, Ramirez has officially joined the cast of the CBS political drama Madam Secretary as a series regular.

When the actress makes her grand debut on the series during an episode set to air on Sunday, Nov. 17, she’ll play the role of Kat Sandoval. Sandoval is described as a “brilliant political strategist” who has seemingly retired from politics. That is, until Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) convinces her to come back.

Shortly after the announcement was made, Madam Secretary creator Barbara Hall released a statement revealing how excited the series was to have Sara Ramirez join the family.

“We’re very excited that Sara is joining the cast,” said Hall. “She brings a fresh perspective and a fun, energetic quality to the State Department staff.”

As much as we’d love to see Ramirez don the signature Grey’s scrubs one more time, we’re excited to hear that we’ll soon be seeing her back on our television screens on a regular basis!

Madam Secretary airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on CBS.
