Reports are beginning to surface that have Miss Congeniality herself eyeing the role of Miss Hannigan in the upcoming remake of Annie.

Sandra Bullock, who reportedly passed on the role a while back, is returning to the negotiations to play the hard-knock dealing orphanage owner.

In past films, the role has been played by the likes of Kathy Bates and the standard-setting Carol Burnett.

Kristen Wiig was reportedly being considered for the role at one point (wouldn’t that have been something?!), but talks didn’t get very far.  Other names were tossed around in the interim, but the studio eventually came back around to Bullock.

The remake is being produced by Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Jay-Z, with Sony holding the rights. So far Quevenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and Jamie Foxx are attached to the project which is still in the development stages.

Wallis is slated to play the title role while Foxx is rumored to be playing Benjamin Stacks (aka Daddy Warbucks).

Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) is attached to direct the picture which is eyeing a 2014 release.

The project has been developing for a number of years with Willow Smith originally attached to play Annie. Smith passed on the project, clearing the way for Wallis.

With so much time before production begins, we’re sure more casting rumors and (hopefully) actual decisions will be headed our way. So far, the project looks to be aiming for an A-list, all-star cast.

Annie’s tentative release date is December 25, 2014.

Thanks, Variety
