Anyone who has a bet on Samantha Bee taking over for Jon Stewart just lost. The correspondent is heading to TBS to launch her own Daily Show-type show.

TBS is describing Bee’s new show as a “platform for Bee to apply her smart and satirical point of view to current and relevant issues,” making it sound like TBS wants to launch their own Daily Show program.

The news comes just a week after TBS announced that Jason Jones, another Daily Show correspondent and Bee’s husband, is heading to the comedy network for a new scripted comedy series which is co-produced by Bee.

“We’re thrilled to have Sam join Jason at TBS and really make this a family affair. We actually have their kids coming in next week to pitch us animation,” joked Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS, in a press release. “Like her fans around the country, we absolutely adore everything about Sam, from her straight-faced sarcasm and ruthless wit to her uncanny ability to mine comedy gold from just about any awkward situation. After watching Sam’s work for years, we knew that her distinctive humor and talent belong at the front of her own show.”

In light of this announcement, one can assume that Bee – who is the longest-serving Daily Show correspondent after joining in 2003 – was never in the running to replace Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show. If she were up for the gig, you’d think that she’d prefer to take over for Stewart instead of moving networks and launching a new program.

Who knows? Maybe Bee’s program will become more successful than whoever replaces Stewart when he leaves later this year. With Stewart, John Oliver, Bee, and Jones all out, The Daily Show is suffering an exodus right now that will be hard to fix.
