True Blood star Sam Trammell is gearing up to board another popular television series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Sam Trammell has officially joined the cast of the final season of Homeland in a pretty big recurring role.

Trammell will be portraying the role of Vice President Benjamin Hayes — a part that’s being described as a key role on Homeland’s eighth and final season.

Vice President Hayes is described as “a political survivor with an aptitude for optics.” As the season progresses, we’ll see Hayes cross the aisle in an effort to serve opposite the newly-elected president (played by Beau Bridges).

It sounds as though the president has high hopes that having Hayes on his side might serve as a bridge across party lines. Having Hayes on his side might be more trouble than it’s worth, though, as the character description teases that the incoming VP will “prove to be more dangerous than anticipated.”

As for Trammell, though he’s probably best known for playing bar owner Sam Merlotte, the actor has been keeping pretty busy since True Blood wrapped in 2014.

The actor has appeared in a slew of television series including The Order, Training Day and NBC’s hit drama, This Is Us.

As for Homeland, fans can catch Trammell starring opposite Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin, and Rupert Friend when the hit Showtime drama returns for its final season later this year.
