Outlander’s Sam Heughan is set to play Paul Newman in an upcoming biopic about author Roald Dahl and actress Patricia Neal.

Fans of Outlander will soon get to see Sam Heughan on a 30-foot tall movie screen, playing one of the most iconic (and handsome) movie stars of his generation.

According to Deadline, the handsome actor has been cast to play Paul Newman in the untitled biopic of Patricia Neal and Roald Dahl.

Production wraps this week on the movie, which stars Keeley Hawes (from Bodyguard) as American actress Patricia Neal and Hugh Bonneville (better known as Robert Crawley of Downton Abbey) as her husband, the British children’s author Roald Dahl.

As the movie is focused on the lives of Patricia Neal and Roald Dahl, don’t expect Sam Heughan to be the main focus of the story. However, he will play a major part, as Paul Newman co-starred with Patricia Neal in the 1963 classic Hud, for which she won an Oscar and he was Oscar-nominated.

The currently untitled Patricia Neal and Roald Dahl biopic was previously titled An Unquiet Life, and follows the early 1960s period when Roald Dahl, the beloved children’s author known for writing such iconic works as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and Matilda, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Day the Earth Stood Still star Patricia Neal retreated to the English countryside to bring up their young family.

The somewhat unlikely pair — a famous and highly-sought-after Hollywood actress and a burgeoning children’s author — find their relationship put to the test, and ultimately strengthened, by tragic events.

Sam Heughan tweeted the news to his followers earlier today on Twitter, saying, “Paul Newman was immensely talented, generous, and an American icon. So fortunate!”

John Hay, known for his work on Lost Christmas, directs the movie, which has yet to set a release date.
